Articulation
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Articulation explores how distinct geometric modules establish a coherent visual structure through their relationships with one another. Contrasting colour planes, angular boundaries, circular forms, and detached elements create an interconnected field in which each component contributes to the overall composition while retaining its individual identity.
Project Description
The central idea of Articulation is that individual forms can maintain their independence while participating in a larger visual system. Each plane, line, and circular element occupies a distinct position, yet their relationships through colour, direction, proportion, and spacing establish structural coherence. The work examines how a visual whole can emerge from the interaction of differentiated parts.
Visual Narrative
The eye moves between the central geometric junction, surrounding colour planes, and the contrasting circular element before extending toward the smaller detached modules below. This movement reveals relationships between concentrated geometry and open space, gradually connecting the individual components into a unified visual experience.
Field Modularism
Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are arranged across an open field to establish relationships through colour, direction, proportion, alignment, and spatial distance. In Articulation, intersecting planes create a central geometric junction, while the circular element and detached modules introduce contrasting forms and spatial intervals. Each element retains its distinct character while contributing to the organisation of the larger field.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The artwork combines geometric order, colour contrast, spatial separation, and negative space to organise visual attention. The central junction provides a point of orientation, while contrasting colour planes encourage exploration across the composition. The detached modules introduce additional visual relationships, balancing concentrated complexity with open space and perceptual clarity.
Artistic Approach
Articulation is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using geometric modules, angular planes, circular forms, linear divisions, and open space. Precise control of proportion, alignment, spacing, and colour allows distinct components to interact as parts of a coherent visual structure without losing their individual identities.
