Cadence
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Cadence explores visual rhythm through the arrangement of geometric modules, recurring colours, and measured spacing. A concentrated upper structure establishes the composition's visual foundation, while detached forms below introduce a sequence of variations that connects repetition with spatial movement.
Project Description
The artwork examines how rhythm develops through the recurrence of forms and the variation of their positions, proportions, and colours. The upper geometric structure establishes an organised visual framework, while the lower modules echo selected elements in a different arrangement. Their relationship creates continuity across the composition without requiring physical contact or symmetry.
Visual Narrative
The upper field combines a diagonal division, nested right-angle outlines, and a vertical blue module to establish a compact geometric structure. Below, three detached forms create a staggered sequence, varying in size, colour, and position. Deep navy, black, ochre, and cobalt blue recur across both regions, linking the main structure with the smaller elements. The open space between them gives each module room to retain its individual presence.
Field Modularism
Cadence applies the principles of Field Modularism through repetition, positional variation, and deliberate spatial pacing. Nested outlines establish structural relationships, while the detached modules extend selected colours and geometric qualities into the open field. Their varied proportions and intervals create a visual sequence in which each element functions independently while contributing to the rhythm of the whole.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The composition combines recognisable geometric structures with controlled variation in colour, scale, and spacing. Repeated visual elements provide continuity, while the staggered arrangement introduces subtle changes in attention. The generous negative space supports perceptual clarity, allowing the eye to move between the concentrated upper structure and the more dispersed lower forms without visual congestion.
Artistic Approach
Developed through digital composition, Cadence explores the relationship between geometric order and visual pacing. Precise control over alignment, proportion, colour distribution, and negative space allows repeated elements to create rhythm without becoming mechanically uniform. The work uses measured variation to establish coherence across distinct compositional zones.
