Entropy
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Entropy explores the gradual movement from visible order toward complexity through geometric forms, colour fields, lines, repetition, and open space. The composition begins with an underlying structure while increasing variation, displacement, and separation introduce a sense of visual instability. Rather than illustrating entropy literally, the work translates it into a relationship between order, variation, distribution, and complexity.
Project Description
The work explores the space between order and disorder. Geometric elements remain connected to an underlying system, yet differences in position, scale, direction, spacing, and distribution prevent complete uniformity. Through controlled deviations, the composition suggests a system becoming increasingly complex while retaining its visual coherence.
Visual Narrative
The eye encounters the larger structured elements before moving toward smaller, separated forms and open intervals. Repetition creates recognition while variation introduces uncertainty, producing a gradual visual progression from order → variation → separation → complexity. The composition remains controlled even as its internal relationships suggest increasing instability.
Field Modularism
Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are arranged across an open field to explore relationships between order, variation, rhythm, scale, and space. In Entropy, a structured system gradually introduces displacement, separation, and variation, allowing complexity to emerge without abandoning the underlying visual framework. The work demonstrates how controlled disruption can become part of the structure itself.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
Geometric order, repetition, colour relationships, controlled variation, and negative space create a balance between predictability and visual novelty. Recurring forms provide perceptual structure, while displacement and variation introduce measured complexity, allowing the eye to move naturally between areas of concentration and visual rest.
Artistic Approach
The work is developed through a digital art practice using geometric modules, colour blocks, linear elements, repetition, and controlled negative space. Precise proportion, alignment, spacing, and colour establish the underlying system, while selected shifts and variations introduce complexity without allowing the composition to dissolve into chaos.
