Equilibrium

Style: Field Modularism

Overview

Equilibrium explores visual balance between concentrated geometric forms, open space, colour, and visual weight. A structured upper field, separated lower elements, and horizontal bands create a dynamic relationship between density and spaciousness. Rather than presenting balance as perfect symmetry, the work considers equilibrium as a relationship between contrasting elements.

Project Description

The central idea of Equilibrium is that balance can exist between things that are not identical. The concentrated upper structure carries visual weight through colour, overlapping forms, and linear activity, while the smaller and more dispersed elements below create a quieter counterpoint. The open space between them allows weight and lightness, concentration and dispersion, structure and space to coexist.

Visual Narrative

The eye initially enters the concentrated upper structure before gradually moving toward the more dispersed elements below. The transition from dense geometry to open space and separated forms creates a visual sequence of density → openness → dispersion → balance, allowing negative space to function as an essential part of the composition.

Field Modularism

Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are positioned across an open visual field to establish relationships between form, colour, rhythm, space, and balance. In Equilibrium, concentrated modules carry visual weight while smaller forms, horizontal structures, and negative space create counterforces, producing balance without relying on conventional symmetry.

Neuroaesthetic Approach

The artwork uses geometric order, controlled repetition, colour contrast, spatial separation, and negative space to establish visual stability. The concentrated upper field provides structured complexity, while open areas and smaller lower elements create moments of visual relief. This controlled variation allows the eye to move naturally through the composition while maintaining an underlying sense of balance.

Artistic Approach

Equilibrium is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using geometric modules, linear structures, colour blocks, and negative space to establish relationships between visual masses. Balance is achieved through careful control of scale, alignment, spacing, colour, proportion, and directional relationships rather than conventional symmetry.
