Fragment explores the relationship between wholeness, separation, and space. Through overlapping geometric forms, layered frames, and open areas, the artwork presents only parts of an imagined structure, allowing the viewer to mentally complete what is not shown.
 
Project Description
 
Sometimes we do not need to see the whole to understand the presence of something larger.
Fragment begins with this idea. The visible forms appear incomplete and partially disconnected, yet their proportions, alignment, and overlapping relationships create a quiet sense of continuity.
The artwork does not depict a particular building or place. Instead, it creates an imagined architectural environment through frames, planes, boundaries, and spatial divisions. What is missing becomes as important as what is visible.
As part of The Luminous Void series, Fragment explores how the mind naturally completes incomplete information and how a small visible part can suggest an entire world beyond the frame.
 
Visual Narrative
 
The composition is organised around a nested central structure. A deep burgundy and brown central form provides visual weight and becomes the quiet anchor of the artwork.
Around it, terracotta, ochre, warm peach, and pale forms create successive layers. Thin light-coloured frames separate the darker structures while also visually connecting them.
Some forms extend beyond the central structure, suggesting that the imagined environment continues outside what is visible. The surrounding open space gives the fragments room to breathe and creates a sense of distance.
The composition therefore feels like a portion of a much larger structure—one that the viewer can only partially see.
 
Neuroaesthetic Approach
 
The nested forms and repeated frames create a clear visual hierarchy, allowing the eye to move gradually from the surrounding space toward the darker central structure.
The contrast between dark and light forms provides visual focus, while the repeated geometric relationships create pattern and rhythm. The incomplete boundaries introduce subtle perceptual curiosity, encouraging the viewer to mentally extend forms beyond what is shown.
The generous negative space prevents the layered geometry from becoming visually crowded and maintains a calm, contemplative viewing experience.
 
Artistic Approach
 
Using contemporary minimalist abstraction, Fragment transforms architectural qualities into a visual language of incompleteness, space, and structure.
Layered rectangles, frames, offset blocks, and overlapping planes create depth without relying on traditional perspective. The composition uses absence as an active visual element, allowing empty space to become part of the imagined structure.
The work is intentionally incomplete, leaving room for the viewer's perception to construct what cannot be directly seen.
