Inflection
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Inflection explores changes in direction, geometric relationships, and spatial movement within an organised visual field. Angular forms and contrasting colour planes create a composition shaped by directional shifts and structural balance. The work examines how changes in orientation can transform the relationships between forms and reshape the perception of space.
Project Description
The central idea of Inflection is that a change in direction can redefine the relationship between geometric elements. Intersecting boundaries divide the field into distinct regions, while contrasting colour planes establish shifts in visual emphasis. Detached modules below extend the composition into open space, connecting the concentrated upper structure with a broader spatial system.
Visual Narrative
The eye moves between the circular element, angular intersections, and changing boundaries within the upper composition. Turquoise outlines emphasise directional transitions, while contrasting colour planes create distinct visual regions. The detached modules below introduce a quieter rhythm, balancing the density of the upper structure with the openness of the surrounding field.
Field Modularism
Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are arranged across an open field to establish relationships through direction, colour, proportion, and spatial position. In Inflection, angular boundaries and intersecting planes create changes in orientation, while the circular element introduces a contrasting point of focus. Detached modules extend these relationships beyond the central structure, allowing directional variation to organise the composition as a unified visual system.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The artwork combines geometric order, directional contrast, colour separation, and negative space to guide visual attention. The circular element provides a focal reference, while angular boundaries encourage the eye to move between distinct regions. The smaller modules below introduce controlled repetition and visual relief, balancing the complexity of the upper field.
Artistic Approach
Inflection is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using angular geometric modules, colour fields, linear boundaries, and negative space. Precise control of proportion, alignment, spacing, and colour establishes relationships between individual forms while preserving the tension between directional movement and structural balance.
