Laminar
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Laminar explores the relationship between geometric divisions, directional boundaries, and parallel rhythm. A structured angular field combines stepped lines, contrasting colour planes, and repeated horizontal bands, creating a visual balance between spatial complexity and linear order.
Project Description
The central idea of Laminar is that distinct geometric systems can coexist within a shared field. Stepped lines and a diagonal boundary organise the upper structure, while parallel bands below introduce repetition and continuity. Their contrasting orientations establish a relationship between directional complexity and measured rhythm, allowing different forms of order to operate within one composition.
Visual Narrative
The eye moves between the stepped lines, diagonal division, circular focal point, and narrow vertical module within the upper field. Attention then shifts toward the parallel horizontal bands below, where repetition establishes a calmer visual rhythm. The transition from angular complexity to linear order reveals the relationship between two distinct but connected spatial systems.
Field Modularism
Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are arranged across an open field to establish relationships through direction, colour, alignment, rhythm, and proportion. In Laminar, angular structures and stepped boundaries contrast with parallel horizontal bands, while recurring colours and linear elements connect the two regions. The composition demonstrates how different geometric systems can maintain their individual identities while contributing to a coherent visual field.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The artwork combines geometric order, directional contrast, repetition, colour differentiation, and negative space to organise visual attention. The angular upper structure introduces controlled complexity, while the parallel bands provide a more predictable rhythm. The circular element offers a distinct focal reference, and the open background allows the eye to move between these visual systems without losing compositional clarity.
Artistic Approach
Laminar is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using geometric modules, stepped lines, angular planes, colour fields, and repeated horizontal bands. Precise control of proportion, alignment, spacing, and colour creates a dialogue between angular organisation and parallel repetition while maintaining balance across the composition.
