Locus

Style: Field Modularism

Overview

Locus explores movement through space by placing a curved trajectory within a structured geometric field. A small circular point becomes a quiet reference within the larger spatial system, while angular forms and detached modules establish relationships between direction, position, and distance. The composition treats movement as a visual relationship rather than a literal event.

Project Description

A locus describes the path traced by a moving point. In Locus, the curved line suggests a trajectory whose destination remains undefined, transforming movement itself into the subject of the composition. The relationship between the curved path, geometric boundaries, and isolated modules explores how movement can exist within a structured environment without being confined to a predetermined route.

Visual Narrative

The eye follows the curved trajectory through the dominant indigo field before returning to the angular structures and circular point. Attention then extends toward the detached modules below, revealing relationships between the main field and its surrounding space. The composition moves from directional exploration to spatial awareness, leaving the trajectory visually unresolved.

Field Modularism

Within Field Modularism, geometric modules, linear elements, and open space interact to create relationships between form, direction, rhythm, and position. In Locus, the curved trajectory introduces a continuous movement against the angular structure of the surrounding field. The circular point provides a spatial reference, while detached modules extend the composition beyond its dominant geometric environment.

Neuroaesthetic Approach

The artwork combines geometric order, curved movement, directional contrast, and negative space to guide visual attention. The angular forms provide structural predictability, while the curved trajectory introduces a contrasting visual path. The isolated circular point offers a moment of focus, and the open field allows the eye to follow the movement without excessive visual competition.

Artistic Approach

Locus is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using geometric planes, a controlled curved line, circular forms, and detached modules. Precise control of proportion, position, spacing, colour, and negative space creates a balance between structural definition and the freedom of an unresolved trajectory.
