Parallax explores how our perception of space changes with perspective. Inspired by the visual phenomenon in which objects appear to shift as the observer moves, the artwork investigates how light, geometry, and viewpoint work together to shape visual experience.
 
Project Description
 
Perspective is never fixed. As our position changes, the relationships between forms, light, and space change with it. What appears aligned from one viewpoint becomes layered, interrupted, or redefined from another.
Parallax transforms this optical phenomenon into minimalist abstraction. Intersecting architectural forms, overlapping frames, and carefully balanced colour fields create an evolving spatial composition where depth emerges without conventional perspective. Rather than depicting architecture itself, the artwork explores how observation influences perception.
As part of The Luminous Void series, Parallax celebrates the quiet dialogue between light, structure, and viewpoint, revealing that space is experienced as much through perception as through physical form.
 
Visual Narrative
 
Layered rectangular forms overlap and intersect, creating a composition that feels architectural yet intentionally unresolved. Large planes of warm ivory, terracotta, deep burgundy, and muted brown establish a strong geometric framework, while thin vertical lines introduce rhythm and precision.
The overlapping white frames become visual pathways, guiding the eye through shifting layers of depth. Their intersections suggest windows, openings, and changing viewpoints rather than fixed boundaries. Large colour fields surrounding the central structure create generous negative space, allowing the architectural forms to breathe while reinforcing the illusion of spatial movement.
As the eye travels across the composition, relationships between foreground and background continuously shift, creating the sensation that the structure subtly changes depending on where attention rests.
 
Neuroaesthetic Approach
 
The composition combines repetition, proportion, and layered geometry to create a visual experience that encourages active exploration. The eye naturally follows the intersecting frames before moving across contrasting planes of colour, producing a gentle rhythm of discovery rather than immediate visual resolution.
The restrained palette reduces visual noise, while the strong geometric order provides cognitive stability. Subtle overlaps and changing spatial relationships stimulate curiosity without creating tension, encouraging prolonged observation as new connections gradually emerge.
Together, balance, repetition, contrast, and negative space create an experience that is both intellectually engaging and visually calming.
 
Artistic Approach
 
Using minimalist geometric abstraction, Parallax investigates how architecture can be reduced to relationships of proportion, light, frame, and space. Layered rectangles, transparent overlaps, and carefully controlled colour contrasts replace descriptive detail, allowing perception itself to become the primary subject.
Rather than representing a building or landscape, the composition expresses the changing nature of observation, where even subtle shifts in viewpoint alter the way space is understood.
