Perception

The Inner Cosmos Series

Overview

Perception explores the way our minds shape reality through attention. Rather than seeing everything equally, we naturally focus on what appears different, leaving much of what surrounds it unnoticed. Through minimalist abstraction, the artwork reflects how perception is not simply about what exists, but about what we choose, or are conditioned to see.

Visual Narrative

The composition is constructed from a balanced arrangement of neutral geometric forms separated by luminous white divisions. Their quiet order establishes a stable visual structure that occupies most of the surface.

At the centre, a single coral rectangle immediately attracts the eye. It is neither the largest element nor the most complex, yet its contrast naturally draws attention before anything else. Beneath the composition, soft horizontal bands introduce subtle movement, suggesting that perception continues to shift even when the surrounding structure appears still.

Although every shape contributes equally to the composition, the eye instinctively returns to the contrasting centre, quietly demonstrating the very idea the artwork explores.

Philosophy

When I created Perception, I wanted to explore a simple but profound question: Do we see reality as it is, or only what captures our attention?

Reality is complete, but perception is selective.

Every moment contains countless details, yet our minds naturally filter experience, highlighting certain things while allowing others to fade into the background. What stands out often feels most important, even when it represents only a small part of the whole.

The coral form represents the thoughts, emotions, memories, or experiences that immediately capture our attention. The surrounding geometric forms symbolize everything else that remains present but quietly overlooked.

To me, perception is not an objective mirror of reality. It is an interpretation shaped by attention, experience, expectation, and contrast.

Through this work, I invite the viewer to notice not only what attracts the eye, but also what remains quietly present beyond immediate awareness.

Neuroaesthetic Approach

Balanced geometric forms establish visual stability, allowing the eye to explore the composition without distraction. The contrasting coral rectangle immediately becomes the primary focal point through colour contrast, naturally demonstrating the brain's tendency to prioritize visual difference.

Soft neutral tones reduce cognitive load, while the white divisions create clarity and structure. The subtle horizontal bands introduce gentle movement, encouraging the eye to revisit different areas of the composition rather than remaining fixed on a single element.

Together, colour, contrast, and spatial balance create a contemplative viewing experience that reflects the selective nature of human perception.

Artistic Approach

Using minimalist geometry, restrained colour, and thoughtful contrast, the artwork transforms the abstract concept of perception into a universal visual experience. Rather than illustrating reality itself, Perception reveals how attention shapes the way reality is experienced.

Interior Aesthetic

Its neutral palette and refined geometric composition complement contemporary, minimalist, Scandinavian, Japandi, gallery-style, and modern interiors. The artwork brings quiet sophistication, intellectual depth, and visual clarity to living rooms, studios, offices, and contemplative spaces.
