Recurrence
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Recurrence explores the return of geometric forms, colours, and spatial relationships within a structured visual field. Repeated modules establish continuity, while variations in position, scale, and arrangement introduce visual tension. The work considers how familiar elements can reappear across space while contributing to an evolving visual system.
Project Description
The central idea of Recurrence is that repetition creates recognition without requiring exact duplication. Rectangular modules, outlined structures, and recurring blue, orange, and dark geometric fields establish relationships between different areas of the composition. Through these returns and variations, the work explores the balance between familiarity, change, and structural continuity.
Visual Narrative
The eye moves between the larger geometric structure above and the smaller detached modules below. Recurring colours, rectangular forms, and outlined boundaries gradually reveal relationships across the open field. The composition encourages the viewer to recognise repeated elements while noticing how their changing positions create a different spatial experience.
Field Modularism
Within Field Modularism, geometric modules are arranged across an open field to establish relationships through repetition, colour, proportion, and spatial distance. In Recurrence, repeated rectangular forms and returning colour relationships connect distinct areas without merging them into a single mass. Variation in scale and placement keeps the composition active while preserving its underlying structural coherence.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The artwork combines geometric order, repetition, colour contrast, and negative space to balance familiarity with visual discovery. Recurring shapes and colours provide recognisable patterns, while changes in position and scale introduce controlled variation. The open field allows the eye to move between visual groupings without losing sight of the composition as a whole.
Artistic Approach
Recurrence is developed through a digital art practice based on Field Modularism, using geometric modules, outlined structures, colour fields, and detached elements. Precise control of proportion, alignment, spacing, and repetition allows recurring forms to establish continuity while preserving the independence of individual modules.
