Stratum
Style: Field Modularism
Overview
Stratum explores the organisation of geometric forms across distinct spatial layers. A structured blue field, nested rectangular outlines, a circular motif, and fine horizontal colour bands establish a composition in which visual order emerges through separation, alignment, and proportion.
Project Description
The artwork examines how distinct layers coexist within a unified visual system. Concentrated geometry in the upper region establishes structural density, while the expansive pale area below introduces a deliberate pause. Near the bottom, narrow horizontal bands create another layer of visual organisation, connecting the composition through linear continuity.
Visual Narrative
The upper blue field contains nested rectangular outlines and contrasting geometric divisions. These right-angled forms establish an architectural structure, while the circular motif introduces curvature into the predominantly rectilinear arrangement.
A strong vertical boundary on the right adds visual weight. Beneath this structured region, a broad area of negative space separates the principal geometry from the narrow horizontal bands. This division creates a layered visual sequence, transitioning from geometric density to openness and finally to a restrained linear accent.
Field Modularism
Stratum applies Field Modularism through the organisation of geometric modules across distinct spatial layers. Nested outlines establish containment and structural relationships, while the circular motif introduces geometric variation. The expansive negative space separates the principal field from the lower linear bands, allowing distinct visual systems to coexist. Alignment, proportion, and colour continuity establish coherence across the composition without eliminating the independence of its individual elements.
Neuroaesthetic Approach
The composition balances concentrated visual complexity with expansive openness. Nested outlines provide geometric predictability, while the circular motif introduces a point of variation. Blue establishes visual continuity and stability, and the lower colour bands create a restrained secondary rhythm. The transition between structured geometry and negative space supports a measured visual experience, allowing attention to move between areas of density and quiet.
Artistic Approach
Developed through digital composition, Stratum uses geometric modules, outlined boundaries, and horizontal divisions to create a controlled spatial arrangement. Deliberate consideration of proportion, alignment, colour, and negative space allows each element to retain its identity within the larger structure. The composition balances architectural geometry with open space and linear repetition.
